Matt Tsuda
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST & PSYCHOTHERAPIST
I’ve always been drawn to the power of empathy, human connection, and the resilience of the human spirit. This interest led me to a career dedicated to supporting others through life’s most challenging moments. I believe that every person carries a meaningful and unique story, and that holding space with compassion and curiosity can open pathways to healing and self-discovery. It’s a true honour to walk alongside each person in pursuit of their goals. My approach is holistic, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based.
I’m trained as an occupational therapist and psychotherapist with 14 years of experience in mental health. I hold a BA (Hons.) and BEd from Queen’s University, an MScOT from the University of Toronto, and a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Boston University.
In therapy, I take an integrated approach, drawing on CBT, DBT, mindfulness, ACT, and MI. I have extensive experience with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, addictions, neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD) and complex mental illness. I’m also skilled in the areas of student mental health and work-related stress.
Professionally, I spent 13 years at a large Toronto mental health hospital in progressive roles including Clinician/Therapist, Advanced Practice Leader, Senior Manager, and Director of Interprofessional Practice. I currently serve in a senior leadership role at a downtown Toronto post-secondary institution, overseeing student care services. Since 2016, I’ve held status as an Adjunct Lecturer at U of T, where I bring my passion for teaching and mentorship into academic spaces. I have been honoured with multiple awards in clinical care, education, and leadership.
Outside of work, I’m an avid traveler, runner, tennis player, and outdoor
enthusiast.
